Gielareck specializes in generating soft, if gloomy, dark ambient projections. Such a formula needs more time for the listener to sink into the sonic whirls, whereas Gielareck, doggedly sticking to the main idea of 'Asfalt', presents 17 short pieces suited to the dynamism and character of the particular stages of the asphalt production process. Frankly, I wish I could listen to the Gielareck unfettered by any ideological limitations of that kind, for his stuff is really worthwhile. As I've already said, he feels best in the domain of subtle dark ambient not unlike the works by Bad Sector, Thomas Köner, Asmus Tietchens or even Christian Fennesz (I know, I know, it's a different field). All of the 17 samples showcase how skillful in creating interesting textures of variable emotional intensity, with composition techniques and post-production he is. His is an impressive palette, ranging from quiet murmurs, through generic dark ambient atmospheres, hoarse glitch noise, feedback manipulations, to quite brave attempts at noise music.
